Christine Knox, 54, who lives in Victoria B.C., was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease (Mito) in 2013. She was shocked by the lack of information and awareness of Mito. Out of her own illness and the stressful ongoing diagnostic process for Mito. Christine conceived a plan to raise awareness and help others stricken with Mito. Christine, who quilted for about 10 years, realized that she wasn’t the only Mito patient who was cold all the time. “What if Mito patients had a quilt of their own that also raised awareness? A tangible thing to show people that they have an illness, and give them emotional support and physical comfort, a handmade Mito quilt just for them.” Thus the Mito Quilts of Hope Project was born. Piecing together awareness the Mito Quilts of Hope Project spreads warmth and hope one stitch at a time.
Now Award Winning Filmmaker Brian Barnard has gotten involved to help raise awareness to the next level. His company “A Promise Kept Production” has produced “Every Stitch Counts, Christine’s Story” a documentary about Christine and the Mito Quilts of Hope Project.
